Fangirls! Earlier this week I whipped up the perfect snack to celebrate one of the new musicals in Starkid’s summer season, the Trail to Oregon. The story follows a young boy who gets sucked back in time to the Oregon Trail, and things get silly. The show begins July 3rd, but I’ve got just the thing to hold our appetites over until then.
Trail mix is the best and easiest stuff ever. The possibilities are endless when it comes to what you want to put in it, making it perfectly customizable. You can theme your mix, tailor it to specific needs, whatever you’d like. Me, I decided to go the root of a tasty more healthy go to thing to much on.
I used:
Banana Chips
Almonds
Chocolate Cheerios
Peanut Butter Cheerios
Yogurt Covered Raisins
With the exception of the cheerios, I just dumped the entire container of each of these ingredients into a bowl. Another good thing about trail mix is the ability to make as little or as much as you like. When measuring, I usually just go by look. I add things until everything looks even. I added the containers of banana chips, almonds, and raisins, and then dumped in enough of each kind of Cherrios so that everything looked even to each other.
This all filled a large bowl about three fourths full. It ended up being about a little more than half of a gallon plastic bag worth of goodness. Mmmm. A good accidental tip I have for the mix maker is that if you by mistake leave your mix in the very hot car, pop it in the freezer overnight and it will for nice trail mix clusters that you can chop on. At first, I was concerned, then I was delighted.
